Catholic Action for Immigrant Children

Newark, NJ

As a follow-up to the Catholic Day of Action that took place in July, the US Federation of CSSJ will be participating in an event with Cardinal Joseph Tobin in Newark, NJ on Wednesday, September 4. We are again hoping to have a contingent from the U.S. Federation of the Sisters of St. Joseph (and our expanded membership) at the event. Below are details from the organizer. If you are thinking of attending the event, please fill out this form for the Federation: https://cssjfed.breezechms.com/form/d13c9b51. This really helped with organizing for the last event in terms of rides and meeting spots. There’s a separate form to fill out for the event organizers, and we ask that you fill out both. This event will again have an optional nonviolent civil disobedience portion to the event.

Any questions? Please contact Kristen Whitney Daniels, Assistant Director of the US Federation at kdaniels@cssjfed.org. She will again be attending the event and will help to coordinate leading up to the event. While the Federation is not sponsoring transportation and housing, Kristen will be happy to connect people.

Catholic Action for Immigrant Children

Wed. Sept. 4th, 10am-12pm

Newark, NJ

Images of immigrant children detained in cages, living in unsanitary, unhealthy conditions have outraged the nation in recent weeks. Pictures of children crying for their parents stolen from them by ICE shame us all. Catholics and others of faith have decried this treatment of children not only as a violation of human dignity and rights, but also as contrary to our religious teachings and the sacred call to care for people who are most at risk, especially children.

Catholic organizations have launched a nonviolent campaign to end the traumatizing abuse of immigrant children and their families by the U.S. government. After a very powerful July 18th event in DC, we are planning a second national Day of Catholic Action for Immigrants—Wednesday, September 4, Newark, NJ, 10:00 am to 12:00 noon.

Please mark your calendars and plan to join us in Newark. Once again the event will include prayer, ritual, and a call to action by Catholic leaders. Cardinal Joseph Tobin, Archbishop of Newark, has agreed to accompany us. Given the continued injustice, there will also be an opportunity, for those who choose, to engage in a nonviolent action of civil disobedience.

Thank you to all who were able to join us in person or in prayer and action at home during the powerful mobilization of Catholic faith leaders on July 18th and very special thanks to all who are organizing weekly local actions around the country. It is critical that we grow this movement for immigrant justice.

We will gather on September 4 to renew and amplify our call for the Trump Administration to end the abuse and trauma of migrant children and stop separating families at the border and in the interior. Please join us in Newark on September 4 and help us show the Administration that our Catholic faith demands we all treat our neighbor as ourselves.
